WE never say pop in Florida, the first time I heard someone use it I did not know what they were talking about. I have noticed people tend to stop saying pop the longer they live here. Soda is usually the word of choice for me.

It's soda here in Wisconsin. Of course, we call water fountains "bubblers".

Love this question. It was pop where I grew up in Illinois, but most certainly soda out here. And if you mess up the term at either location, they'll just look at you funny.

I've gotten sick of this question, so I've taken to calling it "Poda."
It works great, only I've had to settle for drinking a lot of water when people don't understand. ;p

We down here in South Carolina usually use the word Coke. So I tend to use that word myself but on occasion I will use Soda. I have never in my life used Pop to refer to carbonated drinks. When I hear, the word Pop I think of lollipops/suckers.

Also, I thinking of carbonated drinks in the same manner as mwilsonemt.
Coke = Coke (the good stuff)
Cola = Generic (the cheap, crappy stuff)

I'm from Michigan, so it's pop, but since I don't drink it anymore, I try not to call it anything.

Pop. I'm Welsh.
Though, to be fair, I don't drink the stuff and very rarely have the need to ever refer to it! Bottled water for the win.

I'm from Massachusetts and, for a very brief time, I can remember saying tonic. I'm 21, btw. Now I use 'soda' exclusively.
