This is a topic close to my heart. I grew up believing coffee would stunt my growth, that it was a vile elixir that no sane person would drink.
And for the majority of my life I had no problem holding onto that belief. I was of the Mountain Dew generation and that was just fine by me.
As I grew older I came to enjoy, admire and love coffee in all of its forms. The topic being posed is something I always like asking people about -- Favorite coffee.
Some like it hot, some like it cold, some like it in the form of ice cream, a lot of variations. I'm always on the lookout for new ideas to try.
What is my favorite coffee?
It's funny you should ask. My favorite coffee actually encompasses a method and a region. I am a huge fan of French Press coffee.
Sure there are many great coffee makers, but for me nothing tops the simple pleasure of letting good coffee brew with unfettered access to the coffee grounds.
Couple this with freshly roasted kona beans (preferably roasted by your own hand), and you have the makings for a little slice of heaven.
As far as espresso based drinks, what can I say, I am a sucker for a good cappuccino. Go figure. LOL.

1. coffee straight up - Costa Rican or Kenyan with a dab of skim milk. I prefer a dark roast. Most people can't drink my coffee they find it too strong.
2. Vanilla Latte, extra hot non-fat, but with whipped cream.

Jackosh: My wife is a Starbucks junkie, I am sure she will drink one of those as the weather gets hotter.
nowickedwitch: Ever had what they call a European Coffee? Take a espresso maker and make the espresso into a regular cup and keep the machine on taking a long, long draw till it almost fills your cup.
Super strong with lots of crema and a distinctly different taste. You should try it sometime if you have the chance.

My all time favorite is a good cappuccino. I recently had a cafe latte hazelnut and it was deliciously sweet, but it's one of those things I enjoy when it's cold and raining and not on an every day basis.
I always buy organic fair trade coffee either in an organic food store or at a good coffee dealer.

I like coffee when it's generic, freeze dried, been sitting in the pot for a couple hours... you get the idea. I really only drink coffee very late at night, especially on mid-shifts. I love Waffle House coffee and cigarettes at about 3:45 in the am!

I really don't drink coffees. I prefer a mug of hot cocoa every morning although there's a gas station down the street from me that has an awesome Cookies & Creme Cappuccino... Mmm!! Tastes like a molten Oreo.

Depends on the time of the day and activity. Before a good ride on the road bike (i.e. cycling) a ristretto hits the spot (with a bang) while for less intense coffee delight, a capuccino is always nice...

Anne: Right on! I am a big fan of fair trade coffee. Whenever I head into a coffee shop I always ask if they have any, the extra cost is worth it to me.
carmodyarc: Now imagine that coffee left overnight and then reheated the next day! That is the state of my Father's coffee nine times out of ten. Brutal.
joenewbreed: A lot of people like to bag on Dunkin Donuts but they really have a pretty good product, sure its not flashy inside but who cares really? Plus their donuts are fresh unlike that crap Starbucks tries to pawn off on its customers.
a_romig: A friend made me some of her special home made hot chocolate this winter and it was absolutely amazing, really made me rethink my stance on hot chocolate. I think it was the addition of mint that really piqued my interest.
JPhill: Vanilla Latte, classic simple, can't go wrong.

Strong coffee.
I also like the Vietnamese style (strong through a press and in condensed milk) iced coffee and Thai iced coffee (roasted rice mixed in with the coffee beans).

well I love cappuccino made by myself at my friend's restaurant :) they have espresso machine (coffee powder comes from Lavazza coffee beans).. and I do the foam with the fat milk. Eventually I draw something cool like an heart or something with the foam and that's it :D very good..

My father-in-law does that. He believes coffee needs a starter when brewing.

I don't see the appeal of coffee. I don't like the flavour and I don't need the caffeine. I don't drink energy drinks/ soft drinks either (unless they have alcohol in them) although that has nothing to do with the taste.
If I go to a Starbucks (or other coffee place) I normally end up with a frappuccino or a hot chocolate.

a_romig - LOL! Glad to hear my Dad isn't the only nut out there. Wanna hear something even stranger? My Grandfather likes his coffee boiling hot, imagine McDonald's worst nightmare - super heated coffee in the hands of a late 80's man and that is the way he likes it.
BinaryMoon - its definitely an acquired taste and often ruined by over roasted/burnt beans. Try some real kona sometime when you have a chance and do it in your teapot, might be smoother for you. Also, paper filters are the devil, can ruin a pot of coffee faster than you can say Starbucks.
superrats - So funny you mentioned Thai Iced tea, I LOVE that stuff -- was just thinking about it the other day and this awesome little restaurant in Chicago called Penny's Noodles.

Coffee made from the Guatemalan Elephant bean - French Press (cafetiere in the UK) is best, though it works damn well as an espresso or drunk long with milk...
Ok, now I'm off to buy coffee!

I must admit my tastes in general have changed over the last few years - I had some coffee sweets recently that weren't too bad at all (I have a very sweet tooth), so maybe I should try some very sweet coffee some time, something more subtle could be ok.

Coffee I hate is Senseo, brrrrr. It's watery and rather untasty, I actually prefer the stuff that comes out of the machines at the university.

I'm not fancy; I make and only drink very strong coffee. Family members and friends make fun of me because it is strong. I rarely order coffee with a meal in restaurants because it's 'brown colored water'.

Hacendado Espresso Natural (Crema) madeat home with 1/2 cup of warm milk.
Known as Cafe con Leche here in Spain. Now to make you all jealous - out in the cafes it would cost 1€ and come with a small biscuit or mini ice cream!!
In Cafe Marshall you usually get it with a white chocolate Oreo or home made flapjack :-)

I love vanilla lattes with extra vanilla and nonfat milk. I don't opt for the whipped cream.

Do chocolate covered coffee beans count?
If not, Starbucks Frappuccinno. Coffee, nothing else. Blended with ice, but extra, extra runny.

I like coffee that tastes like coffee. None of this flavored stuff that's half cream and sugar. Give it to me black and strong; Sumatra, that's what I'm talkin' about. And FWIW, I'd rather drink gas staion coffee than Charbucks. They over roast their beans and it leaves all their coffee tasting burnt.

I don't know much about coffee but I was recently in Boston for a 4 days weekend with girlfriend and it was amazing and yet almost annoying to see so many Starbucks in close proximity to each other. Needless to say, that I've become a huge fan of the French Vanilla.

I love all coffees, but I'm a big fan of Cuban Coffee (basically espresso with sugar brewed into it) even though usually prefer my coffee straight.
