@ryanarrowsmith - Booze is supposed to taste, boozey...and the higher quality booze, the better the boozey taste is...

@abi

Yuengling? I have serious doubts about the palate of the entirety of Eastern Pennsylvania. Cheez whiz and watery beer, ew.

NICE Comment!

gotta keep that stuff cold...always have a jar or two in my freezer, never full it seems though :)

and while I'm not a regular drinker(I keep my drinking to weekends, and when I do watch the heck out), but every so often...taking a wee taste does provide a bit of "uplifting" w/out any adverse effects.

that does sound good though, a moonshine margarita

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Extra Tasty yet. That's what I've been using for a while to find great drinks I can make with what I currently have in my bar. You enter in all the alcohol, mixers and whatever you have and it generates lists of drinks you can make. You can also search for drinks you can make with a specific ingredient if you're in the mood for something.

Even with all the variety I love Mojitos though. Fun playing around and trying orange or rasberry ones.

Ya know what you've got to try,

Ammeretto Sour, a whiskey sour with a good shot of Ameretto Di Sorrono
in place of the whiskey.

I don't drink much but usually CC & coke, or a good cold beer on a hot day.

I haven't had an Ameretto Sour for quite a few years but just got a bottle recently, it went pretty good. Just on the rocks is good too which is how this bottle went.

Amaretto (Disaronno) + Lemonsoda. It's really good, you should try it.

Coctails:

@montoya:

Mmm I heart Hoegaarden--it's my favorite. Though since I went to Oktoberfest I have to say that Hofbräuhaus Weißbier comes in a close second. And Paulaner Hefe Weizen is really good too.

But as for Belgians, Hoegaarden is my favorite white beer and I also like Chimay if I'm in the mood for something stronger.

@LancerReiNi:

I'm going to REALLY have to disagree with you on TaiwanBeer. ;) I've had TaiwanBeer in Taiwan and the U.S. and I can tell you it is probably my least favorite! I think it's sour.

@missginsu:

I know--vodka isn't for everyone. It took me awhile to drink beer without getting full and I'm a lightweight as it is so I'm the type that will prefer vodka for its "fresh, clean" taste I guess. :) I have never heard of tequila in hot chocolate. Sounds interesting. Bailey's yes...

In fact I could use a coffee with Bailey's Irish Creme in it right now. Perfect for fall.

Time to go to the Coffee Bean.

I hardly ever drink when I'm back in the States.
When I do drink, I like Bacardi with Diet Coke. I'm trying desperately to lose weight.

When I'm overseas, especially in Asia. I tend to drink heavily. I think I do it mainly because I tend to lose weight overseas but gain weight when I'm back home.

From Thailand & Taiwan, I drank a crapload of

See, I've never understood the vodka thing. For vodka to be good -- really good -- it's supposed to be filtered so much that it tastes like nothing. What's the point of that?

Give me the spiced-up additives of something like a some of the newer, ritzy mezcals or a bouncy juniper gin. And the good old gin and tonic is such a classic.

Also: I feel that drinks, like foods, are seasonal. A hefeweizen or michelada or fresh-muddled mojito is awesome in the summer months, but too light in the winter.

For me, it's all based on the season, the mood and the company, so the favorite drink is going to range all over the place: rich smoky bourbon in a cozy room with close company, Guinness (well-poured, of course) through the winter, supremely lime-y micheladas (preferably at the beach), Belgian beers for mussels, Pim's Cup or the afore-mentioned mojito in the summer, a very spicy Bloody Mary (only for brunch, mind you) and sometimes a boggy, peaty Scotch just for the hell of it.

Mmm. All the talk of drinks makes me feel like throwing some tequila in my hot chocolate straight away...

Nice bump. Especially @bloglily's mention of Lucques. Great place. :)

My drink is Goose and tonic. A close second is a Ketel [One] tonic.

If I feel like something straight up I like a shot of 4 Copas Blanc (organic tequila).

Any of those "girly" drinks with juice and sweetness and stuff means it's got lots of sugar in so it will make me pass out really early.

You can't beat a nice G&T with a slice of lime (not lemon) to unwind at the end of the day.
Or a glass of Rose.
Or a Tom Collins.

I enjoy drinking Guinness at the local pub...but I'll usually bring Newcastle home from the grocery. Once in a while I'll bring home some red wine too.

Yuengling has too smooth of a finish...as if some chemist tinkered with it too much. :)

Ahh...Chimay. My ex turned me onto the Belgian brew about a year ago. Good stuff. Props on the lambic too; a framboise every now and then is a nice pick-me-up.

Chimay is where it's at when it comes to beer. Around this time there are sampler packs floating around with all three common varieties and a nice Chimay glass.

Worth the pick up. My personal is the Grand Reserve, but my buddy swears by the Cinq Cents.

Lindeman's Lambic... any variety will do... is nice for a finish. It's sweet, but still manly. A bit much to drink all night by itself though.

I don't travel much down the harder road these days, but when I did a quality Manhattan or a Mojito were the ways to go.

I also used to have a bit of an obsession with absinthe. You can pick it up from plenty of international websites that cater to US drinkers, complete with glasses, spoons, and all other pompous bits. Those with a high anise content are an acquired taste, but there are plenty of thujone heavy varieties out there with pleasant tastes.

When I'm bang up for a large night Tequila is basically the equivalent of air for me.
