Because I really don't drink, I'll go with a rum and coke.

Vodka tonics all day.

Beer: dark or brown.

Hard Liquor: White Russian

Guinness, Jack Daniels and Tequila are in my top 3.

It's sad that I have so many... ;)

I'd say any dark or amber beer...but as far as liquor is concerned, you can't go wrong with a little Maker's and water, or if it's daytime, a good ol' fashioned spicy Bloody Mary with a big ol' carrot stick and green olives rocks the house...big time...

Rewarding! Very, very, very rewarding!

@mattplanet: "Rewarding! Very, very, very rewarding!"

I can't believe you quoted that annoying commercial :)

The most recent one I've seen actually has the kid talk... he says "what airline" which was a shock.

Anyway... shame on you for putting that damn commercial into my head just before I go to bed. Bastard :)

Guinness. I used to devour Otter Creek's Stovepipe Porter but it's a Vermont beer. They don't have it down South. Sooo Guinness. If I can get my hands on it Blackened Voodoo is yummy.

Porters are wonderful in general, but as of late I've been a total wine geek. When it comes to mixed drinks, all I'll consume are vodka martinis.

I think I'm lucky in that I've never met a drink I REALLY liked. Vodka Tonics are nice with a dash of Angostura (think Pink Vodka, like Pink Gin). Drambuie is very nice too, considering I'm a Scotsman with a whole mouth full of "sweet teeth" - it's my Xmas tipple. In summer, though, give me a really good lager or wheat beer, please.

I had a major Cognac experience in a posh hotel in London earlier this year - a little of that went a long way, a good thing considering what it cost. That's the area I'm looking to explore in more detail, e.g. Armagnac.

I can drink Southern Comfort and Coke all night long.

I'm going to go with the Long Island Iced Tea. 7 types of booze. Get plastered faster.

When I'm not trying to get tossed, I'd say rum and coke also. I'm not big of booze that tastes too boozey, ya know?

I like tequila, but tequila normally doesn't like me.

Bourbon. Straight.

Thinking about sending a Christmas present to your favorite frozen meal reviewer? She likes Woodford Reserve and Knob Creek small batch bourbons.

Some important things that I see wrong with this thread:

  1. Never say "rum and coke". You have to pick your rum because well liquors never do a drink justice. For the rum and coke, I'd have to go with my old standby Captain Morgan.
  2. You can't say "hard liquor" and "white russian" in the same sentence. It just isn't allowed.
  3. Saying "any dark beer" is blasphemous to the few good dark beers out there.
  4. Tequila. Ah man you have to pick a type when you say tequila. Most people's experiences with tequila involve Cuervo or some other cheap kind which will never treat you right. The lowest denominator for tequila you should work with is Patron and from there move on up.
  5. Long Island Iced Tea (LITs) is actually 5 liquors. ;-)

Sorry I know my drinks. With all of that said every week is something different with me. I usually just go to the bartender and request that they make me something, but for the respect of this thread I will break it down like this:

  • Day drink. Malibu/Parrot Bay and Pineapple (or without the pineapple and just one ice).
  • Shots. Patron chilled or Blonde-headed slut.
  • Go to drink. Captain and coke.
  • Get there fast. Incredible Hulk.
  • Beer. Yuengling.

3 Olives vodka is the choice then, for vodka tonics. Cuervo hates my stomach.

Day, night, or anytime choice: Cosmopolitan (and for Scrivs: with Belvedere if I have my choice, Absolut if that's all there is)

I don't do shots (anymore) or beer (ever), and only have wine or champagne if it's really, really good and goes with the food.

Vodka tonic's w/lime....

Jack and coke......

Blue Moon w/ Orange.....

Mimosa's on holidays....

Yuengling? I have serious doubts about the palate of the entirety of Eastern Pennsylvania. Cheez whiz and watery beer, ew.

is the term Beer Connoisseur an inherent contradiction?

I prefer beer. :) Even though I'm a college student, I really don't like that watery garbage that most kids guzzle down. The local brewery is my favorite for its atmosphere and tasty brews. Lately, my favorite is Hoegaarden. check this out

3 Olive vodka wasnt my favorite really....Smirnoff, Grey Goose, Absolut, all good choices.

3 olive bloody mary...mmm mmmm!

In fact, the best bloody mary on the planet resides at Another Broken Egg Cafe in Sandestin, FL....in case you're ever there. :)

Jim Beam Black and Coke, Coors Light.

I have this little contraption I call the "MMMmmmm":

1 cup Starbucks mocha almost swirl coffee Ice cream
1/2 cup Kaluah
1/4 cup Baccardi 1873 (or any rum of your choice to taste).

Mix it up, get ready for a coffee/chocolate bang (with a tasty little crunch at the end). It has a bajillion calories, so don't drink it if you're trying to lose weight. Use more ice cream (or less alcohol -- pfft!) for a creamier feel.

Cuba Libre (only with Venezuelan Cacique rum)
Gin Tonic (with Tanqueray or a good Dutch Jenever)

Any good wine.

I only like what tastes good, so beer and wine are both out. :)

My favorites are Amaretto Sour and Fuzzy Navel. Mike's Hard Lemonade is ok too.

Gin and tonic hands down - Bombay Sapphire.

I do a Gin and tonic with 3 limes... makes the drink more "lemonade" tasting which daddy like ;)

Tanqueray and tonic all the way. If Tanqueray is unavailable, Bombay is always a good replacement, and limes tend to be optional.

Single malt Scotch, neat. Preferably an Islay style, such as Laphroaig or Lagavulin. Mmmmm....

Vino is my poison.

Mojito, but truly, you haven't had a good one til you've had one in Havana.

Boring, everyday drink: Screwdriver.

I'm recently addicted to the new Absolut Pears vokda.

it's good over the rocks, it's good mixed. It's just plain good.

Hmmm... if I see a lot of common ground is in Vodka drinks. I happen to love Vodka mixed drinks as well. Use to love Screwdrivers, but now addicted to drinking Cosmopolitans.

Generally beer for me. Dark beer too, like stouts or porters. Or something that's been aged for a while, like a barleywine. Yum.

I also certainly enjoy scotch.

depends on my mood.

love bloody marys, extra spicy. preferably almost thick enough to chew.
black russians with vanilla vodka.
just-dirty-enough ketel one martinis.
abita amber or anchor steam.
medium-to-heavy red wines.
and tuaca, chilled, straight up.

promise i'm not a drunk, just a former bartender. :)

#1) Dry Martini. By Martini, I mean a real martini, with gin. Specifically Tanqueray No. 10 and a dash (or spritzing) of Martini & Rossi dry vermouth, shaken with ice then strained.

#2) Churchills Irish Whiskey, neat.

#3) for my fru fru drink I'll go with a pina colada, but none of that mix garbage. Real coconut creme, real pineapple juice (no sugar added!) and blended with any light rum that's not rancid.

And finally as far as beers go, give me a good Hefe Weissen any day. Weihenstephanner being my favourite.

Mai Tai's, Zombies, or anything else deserving of sand and a drink umbrella.

#2 has been supplanted by Bushmills. They have a 750ml that's $114... yow.

I LOVE this thread.

I was in Los Angeles this weekend and had the most terrific drink at Lucques, a swanky place on Melrose. It's a Blood Orange Sour:

2 ounces of Grey Goose vodka,
about double that of blood orange juice (you have to squeeze it yourself, but this is citrus season, so blood oranges are out there to be had),
a splash of simple syrup and
a squeeze of lemon.

You float a lovely little slice of blood orange on top of this mixture and you've got it all: antioxidants, booze, and the most beautiful color.

MMMMMMM

I drink the following:

Killian's Irish Red

Guiness

Boulevard Bully Porter

and my favorite....

Maudite

I usually get that one in the .750 bottle.

Hey, RightOn -- Can you tell someone's politics from their choice of drink?

Black Russians... and Grey Hounds

Cap'n and Coke or Malibu and Coke (first and second choices).

If it's just beer, I'm partial to Newcastle or a taddy Porter. Depends on what they have available.

Wine? Lambrusco if I'm feeling cheap. Like really cheap.

Vodka + Redbull
Or Rum'n'Coke :)

When I'm bang up for a large night Tequila is basically the equivalent of air for me.

Chimay is where it's at when it comes to beer. Around this time there are sampler packs floating around with all three common varieties and a nice Chimay glass.

Worth the pick up. My personal is the Grand Reserve, but my buddy swears by the Cinq Cents.

Lindeman's Lambic... any variety will do... is nice for a finish. It's sweet, but still manly. A bit much to drink all night by itself though.

I don't travel much down the harder road these days, but when I did a quality Manhattan or a Mojito were the ways to go.

I also used to have a bit of an obsession with absinthe. You can pick it up from plenty of international websites that cater to US drinkers, complete with glasses, spoons, and all other pompous bits. Those with a high anise content are an acquired taste, but there are plenty of thujone heavy varieties out there with pleasant tastes.

Ahh...Chimay. My ex turned me onto the Belgian brew about a year ago. Good stuff. Props on the lambic too; a framboise every now and then is a nice pick-me-up.

Vodka and lime. Can drink that all day long

Rum and coke

Holstein Pils

jack and coke, vodka tonic
