Growing up (not in the US), never really ever thought of this. No one had guns, so here I am, almost 34 and I have never handled a gun and never even thought about it. Since there is no way any kids of mine are ever shooting at an animal, I guess they'll never be old enough. Once they are on their own, it's their call.

What has just happened in Nebraska is a good reason why guns should be illegal.

Ahh, I was wondering how long THAT knee jerk reaction would happen.
Thank you Noel, YOU just made my day. REALLY, I'm serious.
As for THAT being the reason guns should be illegal, they ARE for people who have VERIFIED mental illness. It has yet to come to light if the man involved HAD a verified mental illness and if so, HOW he got a gun is VERY important. If not, so long as he was of legal age to OWN a gun, I see no reason on God's green earth to simply TAKE it from him.
YES this was tragic, but (and yes I'll toss out a cliche phrase here) what if he decided the best way to "become famous" and exact his revenge on his ex-employer was to drive a car into a large pile of people? Should THAT be a GOOD reason to make cars illegal?

Fighting fire with fire doesn't really work. Arguing for guns on the basis that cars are dangerous in the wrong or incapable hands doesn't hold. Guns are meant for killing; cars are not however dangerous they can be. By reducing the number of guns available and making them harder to get I reckon is a good thing. We have less gun crime in the UK, not just because we have a smaller population, but because guns are illegal here.

I'll give you the car point... BUT I will not concede that banning = safety.
Banning books does not keep people from reading them and we've got a LONG history of that glorious fascist tactic here in the US.
There are numerous piles of data you can climb through that show that (at least in the US) when you outlaw guns, then you're broadcasting your vulnerability, increasing criminal gun violence.
My Second Amendment rights afforded to me by virtue of my citizenship allow me and every other LAW ABIDING citizen to own firearms. The only caveat is my failure to abide by the letter of the law (felony conviction) or my lack of mental capacity (mental illness or instability).
The federal government would have to repeal my rights before they could begin to disarm me and that's not going to happen any time soon. Guns are designed to kill, yes but that fact alone does not warrant erasing their existence simply because people direct their force with ill intentions.

It's the reason they're banned in the UK and it works. I prefer the law in the UK. Yes, if someone really wants a gun, of course they can get one, but it's limited. It is illegal here to carry an offensive weapon. If I carried one, it wouldn't make me feel safer. We don't need them.

There is no way you can have limited access to something and still be able to get it... it's either/or. I can't limit your access so you can't see my website but still let you see it.
My best explanation is that it's a cultural thing and since you wouldn't even carry one if you were "allowed" to then you can't really understand WHY one would need/want one.

It's cultural in US to allow guns. You have more gun crime than UK.

Gun crimes are NOT directly proportional to our ABILITY to own them. There are regions of this country with HIGH gun violence and LOW access.

One quick "knee jerk reaction" to what recently happened in Colorado...
How many people WOULD have died if Jeanne Assam wasn't allowed to carry a weapon?

So the boy in the video is being taught to shoot a pistol to protect the citizens of the US from their government.
Makes sense to me ;{
