New blog design, criticism wanted

I have recently redesigned my blog and was hoping to get some constructive criticism so that next time I can improve it. Basically I was trying to get a smooth, simplistic style which can be easy to read and browse.
When I first started creating it I was going to use light colours and use a WordPress template as my guideline but soon went off that idea when I found some matching dark-tone colours. It now seems like it is too unwelcoming and not bright enough, so I am asking for any criticism that you can give me.
It is made mainly from CSS and there are a few Photoshop images (such as the header, drop-shadow et cetera) the header I made in Photoshop as a place-holder at first, but liked it so kept it as the real thing.
Thanks in advance.

Design looks pretty cool, I like the date area. Why display the calendar-type date along with the date across the top of each entry box?

Not bad, just not terribly unique.

Looks pretty good in Firefox, but it breaks a bit in Safari.

@RalphDagza: Yeah, I think so too but I don't want to lose all the things I have on Blogger just to change to a service in which some aspects I have to pay for.
@Mike: I do that because of the way that I display the box (I have to do it through Javascript and format the date as "Feb 25" because Blogger hands it to you as "Sunday, February 25, 2007". Also because if you go to older posts the date in the box doesn't seem to show up properly, not sure why though.
@justxTc: What could I do to make it more unique?
@dhollister: Firefox and Flock I recommend for browsing, because anything like Internet Explorer or Safari overlaps elements for some strange reason.
@All: Thanks all.

There is no alternative text to the image-based links in the top navigation bar. It improves your site's accessibility and your Google rankings too (though slightly)

@paulbjensen: Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I have added an alternative text those images and some others.

Does anyone think that I should change the colour scheme or improve anything?

I would brighten up the blue links and put more negative space between the posts to visually seperate them.

Your blog, for a Blogger blog, is very well put together. I know that working with Wodpress.com is a little bit limiting, but in the end it's worth it, as RalphDagza says:
I am one of the WordPress lovers, so don't take this too hard.

@nhurtley: Thanks for that, I will bear that in mind for next time.
@michaelper22: Yeah, I also think that WordPress is a lot better than Blogger and would love to swap, but I don't want to lose everything I have on Blogger.

Curious, does WP allow exporting of entries? If it does, that the key TO move, not stay with Blogger. IMO. I don't mean for this to sound bad but you have less than 100 entries - less than a year of entries. It seems there are ways to do it but the fact your data is kind of trapped but be a reason to leave to a more mobile environment.
That said, what are you doing with categories? You don't seem to use them much. Makes it more challenging for users to zero in on the topics they like.

@Tyme: Hmm, yeah I may decide to swap over and just leave my other posts. Every post that I add is filed under a category (except ones that I posted before the Blogger update) and these categories can be viewed from the sidebar.

I couldn't provide any criticism buddy, your template is awesome. The only thing required now is a contact form so that visitors can get in touch with you :). See this note for it.

@blogosquare: I have added a contact form to my blog now, thanks for the code and the link to your blog (which I like).

Took the words out of my mouth, Tyme.
@Bull3t: Wordpress allows you to import entries from another location using RSS feeds. You should check that out, as it is head and shoulders above blogspot. Also, if you move over to WP, I'll be able to give you criticism... My office has blogspot blocked.

@joenewbreed: Okay, I will take a long look at swapping over and consider it, not sure though because it will mean that I will have to pay for some other features.

@bull3t: pay? oh you're talking about using wordpress.COM... gotcha... I dunno about what I said, then. I use a standalone installation of the wordpress software from wordpress.ORG. I have my own server, though, so if you don't have access to one of those, you won't be able to do the standalone version.
Perhaps someone with a WP.com account can tell us if the same holds true for their blog? can you import backlogs from other blogs using RSS feeds?
Sorry for the confusion, bull3t. I'd still research it though. Wordpress is good people.

@joenewbreed: I do have access to a server that I pay for (ntlWorld, now Virgin Media), but I do not think that it accepts PHP and I would need to buy a database of some sort too, wouldn't I?
Okay, I managed to transfer all my posts and comments to this: http://bull3t.wordpress.com.
