I use Slimstat based on Shaun Inman's Shortstat because of its integration with textpattern for my personal sites.

For the commercial work I've used bbclone because it's clean, simple, and straightforward.

I use Google Analytics and Webalizer. They both give me pretty detailed information and stats on what's going on with my site, visitors, etc.

Google Analytics takes a little work to drill down to a lot of information but once drilled down, there is a lot of good stuff it provides.

Webalizer also has a lot of information but is a lot easier to use. One or two clicks and I can get a snap shot of everything going on and in real time.

I also look at my raw server logs. This is where I get the best information but I don't get a nice pretty GUI with it... however I like raw data... I can parse it out and look at it any way I see fit.

I'm still playing with a bunch of different options to see which I like the best.
Statcounter
Google Analytics
Slimstat

I just installed Firestats yesterday to see if I like it better. I really enjoy having my stats right there in my Wordpress but it amazes me how much the numbers can vary between different services.

I just started using FireStats too, I saw it in a note yesterday and I'm loving it so far.

Jen, what kind of differences did you see in the services.

I use Google Analytics and Reinvigorate. Love Reinvigorate more - it's so easy to understand, so easy to use.

I just use AWStats. It gives me the stats I need and came free with my host.

Slimstat registers a LOT more pageviews than Firestats, although the differences in actual hits (which is what I care more about anyway) is negligible.

Between Google and Statcounter you'd think you're looking at two different sites. I'm sure if my hits were in the thousands it'd be no big deal but when talking about the difference between 50 and 80, I really don't know what to believe.

(Of course I prefer to side with the biggest number)

Reinvigorate looks pretty cool. I just signed up for the beta, hopefully I'll get in there.

Has anyone tried Mint? I hear it's pretty decent too.

I use google analytics and really hate it. the interface is just absolutely terrible. The info is good though.

I'm using slimstat on a few sites (predecessor to mint) and am pretty happy with it.

Firestats and the version of SlimStat I used required that you manually input agent strings or ip to filter out bots. The main differences that I can tell in their counts are the way they count and handle them.

I loved Firestats when I was on WP 2.0.x, but it didn't work for the longest time on 2.x that I moved onto something else. I started with Clicky a few weeks ago, but my trial ran out and now I have to pay. I don't think it has enough useful features to pay for.

I might check out Mint.

Yeap, Reinvigorate rocks. Got accepted for beta about 3 months back, and loving every minute of it. Am now scared when they begin charging.

I think you'll find that one stats program will not offer enough coverage. You can have the same data set, run three different applications, and see three very different results. It should not be that way, but it is.

If you're just curious about site stats and don't care about delving into behaviour and ROI, Mint is a neat little application.

Can someone explain to me exactly what a hit is? It's just when a browser pulls any file off your server, right? So if you have a page with 2 stylesheets when one person visits that one page you'll get 3 hits (1 for the HTML and 2 for the CSS) right? I am totally lost when I'm looking at these things.... help.

do you know of any stat programs that run with ruby?

I use the latest version of Mint. Recently I started using Clicky also for comparison between the two and to write a little review of the two. But Mint is still my number one. It gives a lot of control by using Peppers to get the info you want.

Analytics and Webalizer. I'm really interested in the other ones people have mentioned in this note, though. I agree w/Sean, Analytics is a bit tough to navigate.

I'm not seeing an option in Slimstat to disable bot counting. Anybody care to advise?

@jensized

Scroll down to about line 45 in the config file and you should see...
Set them to false and no more crawler data will be tracked.

/** Whether to display hits from crawlers */
#
var $show_crawlers = false;
#
#
/** Whether to log hits from crawlers. The database will be smaller if
#
this is disabled */
#
var $log_crawlers = false;

Sweet, thank you.

I'm using Mint and am completely happy. I can't see ever using another stat package.

I use the shortstat plugin for WordPress to keep track of my blog visitors and I just got into Google Analytics two days ago.

I use Google Analytics and was using Performancing in the past. I started using it again 2 days ago and it is fabulous! Great looking interface and I love the details that it provides.

I used to use SlimStat, and recently moved over to Mint. I really likes SlimStat, and I love Mint.

It really is an amazing piece of software. Real cheap, too!

"sitemeter" because I don't need anything else.
I never could figure out the purpose of google analytics. They make you put something in your template and I didn't like that so I removed it.

A while back I used something by " NEW EGG"???? which gave me an overall of what people were clinking out on and where on the site it was located .This helped me figure out where to put the things I wanted people to click out on.

Crazy Egg, I think. Photomatt uses it as well. I'm using Clicktale for the same thing, and it's pretty cool, being able to watch videos of your readers scrolling through, reading and commenting on your blog.

Sort of a perverse pleasure.

I'm currently using Mint and Reinvigorate (whilst trying to decide which one to fully rely on) I thing both are great. However I find myself valuing a product simply by its design rather than its capabilities.

which one? Mint, or Reinvigorate?

Bah, you're so lucky to have Reinvigorate. I wish I was a tester. D:

I use Measure Map and Google Analytics. MM now seems to be pretty much dead as there haven't been any updates for I don't even remember how long and no word from any of the MM team. Not even a response to any emails sent to them or messages on the forums. GA, as someone mentioned above, doesn't have the best interface and it's a little confusing to me, whereas MM was pretty straightforward.

I'm still contemplating dropping both and trying something else. Mint seems like a great choice and after seeing Reinvigorate mentioned I added my email addy to the list of persons wanting to test out the Beta. So I guess I'll see, how that goes.

Sigh...I wish MM, didn't die down like it did after Google acquired them. :(

Bah, you're so lucky to have Reinvigorate. I wish I was a tester. D:

I submitted my e-mail address for the beta and got an invite the next day. Never hurts to try!

I submitted it about two months ago, nothing has come yet.

Currently Mint, but I might drop it because I've had problems with it slowing down the load times of my network (might just be the peppers I have installed or something).

I just got a surprise email last night, finally my invite to Reinvigorate. It's great, I ditched Mint.
