I don't, but I haven't tried yet. I have heard that it's a great way to earn some extra pockey money, and I know of a few bloggers that ARE earning a bit of money off of their blog. I'm going to attempt it once my blog gets more frequent viewers.

well im new to but i havent added any ads waiting for blog to be popular firs my goal : 100 uniq .hits a day then i'll add ads , probably adsense , my older blog that i had it arrived 100$ for 3 months maybe this one will get me higher profits.

i guess it depends on the traffic you have on your blog which also depends on the subjects you are posting on your blog.
so if you have traffic it will be easy to earn money as there are many sites now pays for this.
at last its all about the traffic :)

Its fine if you are doing all your online work just as a hobby. But don't you think that this advertising or adsense blah blah is not acceptable as a dependable job. As in the starting, Friend cooper has said about his experience. What so ever you are competeing good through your blog.

Yes I do. Currently I make around $100-$200 a month. Ads don't make me much yet. I get about 150 unique hits a day and you need significantly more than that to generate decent clicks.

If you have further interest in how I make money on my blog, I'd refer you to my series on making money blogging where I list the amounts I make through certain companies and ads. I am sure beginners will find it useful. Veteran MMOL folk will probably yawn:

I think that the ads are just a bonus, As my blog continues to grow it just helps to keep me going really. The readers and the comments are more helpful, but making just a little bit of money to pay for hosting and maybe fund my next great idea.

Plus for all the effort that I put into the blog a little revenue never hurts.

Between Adsense, Kontera, and Text Link Ads, we're averaging about $150 every 2-3 months on Volksbloggin. That's not too bad at all compared to the effort Mrad and I put into it. We wish we had more time, but that's more than enough reward so far. Adsense is the biggest contributer to it, with TLA being a very close second.

I've made nada so far with my adsence. I wish I had a teacher that can steer me in the right direction as far as placement and configuration but its been 3 or so months and nothing at all. Not even a dime :(

I'm very much intrigued. I added Adsense to my website a few months back now in order to see what the site would do passively. Now clearly, with my site having no readership at all, the income is nil.

How is income calculated by Google when using text advertisements: -pence per click/page view, etc?

No money for the blog, but I don't really do much in the way of advertising, either.

I write about food whether I'm blogging or not, so it keeps the writing muscles well-lubricated. The blog is also great for developing community and finding like-minded people.

With TextLinkAds, I get enough to pay for hosting and still have a bit left over. I started running AdSense before that, and once I reach the You-Finally-Made-$100-Now-You-Get-Your-Money point, I'll probably get rid of them.

After reading Esherido's comment, I realized the Catch-22 of blogging and freelancing. As a freelancer, it's hard to get jobs at first. So you start up a blog to promote. Then you get clients, but have no time to write, and the blog becomes nearly useless as far as promotion goes.

That said, I blog for fun, not for money. It's nice paying the hosting bill, though.

@Kamigoroshi - I think that a personal blog can make money. Mine is currently making me about $75/month. BUT, it's not passive income. I've got to work to get that. I hope to get to the point where I make more with it but like you said, I don't think personal blogs are focused enough to actually earn a bunch of money--it's almost as if you have to focus on a specific product if you want to make anything substantial.

I currently make no money on my blog but I honestly haven't even tried. I'm going to blog because I like it and it I wake up one day and my readership is large enough to make some money, I might look into it. A general informal rule I've observed is that if you're not in the Alexa top 20,000 you aren't going to make any considerable money from advertising on your blog... so maybe that's a goal to shoot for.

Just got my first $100 cheque from Adsense! I'm making about $75 a month from TLA and Adsense for my one blog. The thing is, I've been working on the blog for over a year now, and it's only been in the last couple of months that I've started to see any significant money coming my way. Is it worth it? My blog is responsible for bringing in several hundred members to my $97-$197/month service. The rest is from affiliate revenue from product reviews and recommendations I make to my loyal list.

Loyal because I don't disrespect them with advertising and over-mailing them and loyalty from making very good recommendations that actually help them.

I'm earning about $50 a month right now. $0.02 a month from Adsense, a few random bucks from Share a Sale (box.net referals) and the rest comes from a text link for a cupon site. That easily covers my hosting bill, but once you account for all the months previous to now where I didn't make anything close to my hosting bill, there's pretty much no profit there.

I just started adsense a couple of weeks ago and I'm surprised and disappointed at the same time. I never click on those ads, so I was surprised that people actually click on them. Now I'm disappointed that only 0.12% of them do. :) Anyway, if the rate remains constant it's going to at least pay for hosting, though I'm still unsure if it's worth the eyesore.

I run a community site with an iTMS affiliation that has earned something on the order of 30 dollars since its inception three years ago.

But I don't do these things for money, I do them for love.

No personal blog can ever earn you money. That's what I know, 4 years later and $49 bucks from adsense.

Unless you dedicate your blogs to ads as much as content, there is no way you can earn that much from it. Thing is, my blog depends on me having a life and simply dedicating my life to earning money from my blog is never part of the deal.

Content or Money. That is the choice that we have to make.

I choose content and surprisingly, it pays for itself. Even the hosting that I'm on.

For me, Adsense is the biggest earner, bringing in $100 a month (ish).

Funnily enough I've made more money passively than actively. I received $200 in donations and $300 for selling one article to the TechRepublic.

You CAN make a lot of money through your site but you have to be dedicated... I'm still trying to get rich this way but I don't see it ever happening.

I don't make money except a little piddly Amazon stuff over the year.
I tried to sign up with one of those add things a couple of months ago and got sort of sick to my stomach doing it. When a couple of people decided to take out adds I couldn't figure out how to get the code to work it just wouldn't and the ad people kept emailing me to remind me to "get it up" so I sad screw it and didn't do it and my nausea went away.

Some but the hourly rate is in the ten-thousandths ball-park compared to my freelancing rate. I get money through advertising, some affiliate linking to dreamhost and occasionally paid reviews.

I don't do it for the money really.... Sure it would be lovely to make a living off it but, in my case, I program the whole thing so it's not just about writing but all about learning too.

It's a hobby. I don't really care how much it costs me but I want it to be as cool as possible.

It is my blog. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my blog is useless. Without my blog I am useless. I must write true. I must write faster than my competitor, who is trying to out-write me. I must get more readers before he gets more readers than me. I will.
