9rules Round 5: October 25th
Written by Scrivs on September 21, 2006
Submission Round 4 for the 9rules Network was dubbed the “700 Club” because we received 700 submissions from sites that wanted to join the Network. This wentabove and beyond our expectations and with that we are proud to announce that we will be opening Round 5 on October 25.
This will be the final submission round for 2006 so if you want to get into the Network make sure you don’t miss out because you only have 24 hours to submit your site on that day. On October 25 starting at 12:00am Eastern Time (what some of you might consider October 24 midnight) the submission page will open and you can submit as many sites as you are a part of. If you are not sure your site fits in one of 25+ communities don’t hesitate to send it our way as we are always looking to branch out into new subjects.
Until then, look for more 9rules Tools and improved 9rules Notes functionality along with one or two more new sections on 9rules. Also, join in on the Guess the Round 5 Number Game to win some kind of prize (no idea what it will be yet) in our Notes section and earn major bragging rights for King/Queen guesser of 9rules. And just as we did for Round 4, we will be publishing a series of entries on what we look for and what we stay away from when looking at a site.

And I’m still discovering the new blogs that entered during Round 4! Eagerly anticipating the next round, I’ll definitely be submitting my design blog.

Nice, i have been reading from 9 rules for about 7 months now, and I really like the content, and the community, but I’m hesitant to submit because I felt 9 rules community is not inclusive of content that is not so west….
I am from ethiopia, and my blog although very successful is might not be intersting to the niche that 9 rules has…
would 9rules be interested in having categories like “african” …
A good example would be if the content had to do music from mongolia, but in english would u guys even consider including the blog…
I doubted it….so i was hesitant to submit last time… I did see that you guys added categories like special interest…and the blog about knitting… and that was interesting…
and the next step would be to be inclusive of blogs that are more global.. a good example is http://www.globalvoicesonline.org...
September 21st, 2006 at 12:11 pm
Joe, it completely depends on the sites submitted. I’m not looking to add X number of sites to 9rules. I try to go into this with no expectations - what shall be shall be.
September 21st, 2006 at 12:16 pm
Nolawi, curious why wouldn’t we consider it? 9rules has a growing mainstream audience. During the rounds we could only accept based on what was submitted but I’ve started added sites outside of rounds to expand our communities. I am open to quality blogs on many topics. Getting them to submit….
September 21st, 2006 at 1:00 pm
Hey Nolawi, from my personal point of view, I love adding blogs to 9rules that normally a tech-centric audience might not find…. I think that’s what makes what we’re doing so interesting from my perspective. I’d suggest submitting and also telling any friends of yours who blog on more diverse topics to submit as well — like Tyme said we’re always looking to expand into new areas

6 of us had an online conference last nite.. and we are hoping a few of us will be accepted.. under a new category.. “African”
btw about ten blogs with political content in ethiopia have been blocked by the government... and that has really hurt our traffic in the past year… amnesty international and CPJ… are working to get some of my freinds unblocked…
since most truthfull journalists have been jailed since the fake election of 2005… blogs were the main source in which the people were getting their news…
Thus the governement blocked pro opposition blogs… because they cant be controlled…

Colin: With regards to the quantity of content, in some cases a couple weeks worth is fine, but we do hesitate simply because we like to see the consistency of posting over a period of time. With that said don’t pause to submit your site at all, by 10/25 you can fill it up with some great content.

[...] Continuing my preparations for 9rules round five, I have bestowed Ekonoline with its second re-design in five months. The first design, codenamed E2, had served the site well, but the whole thing was getting a little bit too big for its britches. The single-column format, originally designed to highlight the entries, limited what I was able to do with the design and limited the space available for things like a search form, links to the RSS feeds, and other assorted goodies. It’s my hope that, as the site moves on, this design (codenamed E5, in honour of the upcoming 9rules submission round) will serve as a good base for any future layout changes. [...]

I’m not sure how your network /entirely/ operates, but I hope most of it–including pulling bookmark icons, titles, etc–is entirely automated. If that were the case, I’d be quite willing to submit a few of my sites for consideration, especially since there’s a spot just waiting for a 9rules logo in the new header of the new secret design I’m working on.
