Round 4: What’s Next

Written by Scrivs on June 4, 2006

Some time this week we will send out emails to all the sites accepted into Round 4 with the new member agreement and some instructions on what you need to do before you become official 9rules members. I was just trying to enjoy the rest of my short weekend before I began the assimilation…errr, integration of these great new sites. So just a little bit more patience and the process will begin.

Also, it seems some people are taking the list personally if they don’t see themselves on it. Understand that when you are going over so many sites in a short period of time it is definitely possible to miss a couple of high-quality ones in the mix. Hopefully, there is a time down the road where we can find them again and pick them up. Blogging is about having fun and whether you got in or not shouldn’t be your concern, but whether you are having fun doing what you do.

  1. Nick Says:

So do we really get decoder rings in the 9rules goodie bag or is Stammy messing with my head again?

And what new communities/categories are we looking at?

  2. Matt Says:

    Hi,

I am curious how you are going to handle the 20+ new members of 9rules that participate in multiple content networks?

There are at least twenty from our quick look at the list this morning.

    ~Matt

My blog is proof that not getting in doesn’t mean you can’t in future as I just made it in when didn’t before. I think it is a way of raising you game and focusing on something you love, it gives you something to aim for whilst having fun, least that is what it did for me. I totally agree with the sentiment if you aren’t having fun don’t do it. I can’t wait for my assimilation personally and now I hear there is a decoder ring …. wow! ;-) Is there a secret dance we need to learn and perform? Ok, I might just be giving people ideas there lol.

  4. francesco Says:

hi, i’d have some questions to raise:
    - do you accept submissions of websites other than those oriented to english speaking audience?
    - when will be the next round?

  5. Bruce Says:

Thanks for the R4 “What’s next?” update! Not knowing when to start looking up the tracking ID for the decoder ring shipment must surely be a fate worse than being passed over? ;-)

  6. Bryan Culver Says:

What about the 9rules hazing process? I heard it was a doozy.

  7. nigel Says:

and when will be a 5 Round?

  8. Napfisk Says:

I still keep thinking it was a mistake that I did get in (being only one of the two WP blogs).

I’m curious about these instructions, though, but all will become clear soon, no doubt.

I’ve personally congratulated some of the lucky ones I knew already, so here is my congratulations to all the bloggers I will be getting to know (I’m working my way through the list). Congrats all!

  9. Scrivs Says:

    Matt,

As this is the prelimnary list we will evaluate those sites more closely and work with them to see what can be done.

  10. Joe Anderson Says:

This has built up a lot of hype, and I’m suprised by the amount of sites who made the list.

  12. AJ Says:

Looking forward to the email :)

  13. JR Says:

It must be an ardurous task wading through all the sites that werte submitted - to state the obvious. Mine was one that didn’t make it and I must admit I am disapointed in that, but I still have so much fun with my blog and the bottom line is that I will just keeping going with it no matter what.

Who knows, there’s always Round 5 down the track… maybe. :)

  14. Lelia Katherine Thomas Says:

I was really shocked to see how many sites were in that list! Looks like you have plenty of work ahead of you!

  15. Kyle Says:

Rather then complain about why it is that my site didn’t make it I took a moment to reflect why it was that it was that I didn’t make it and and took a moment to respect the community and it’s members.

Congratulations to everyone who made it in, well deserved I am sure. I am looking forward to loads of additional reading and as I wrote on my own blog entry, continuing to create a better blog that can possibly be included in future rounds.

Thanks for your time reviewing my site, and if you would like to see what I wrote feel free to check out my post about it…

Thanks again and congrats to all who made it in!

  16. Dan Says:

Woohoo! One of my sites made it!

It’s enlightening to see that the one site made it while my personal site didn’t. Even the process of preparing for the submission round brought some of the shortcomings of my ps to my attention - I’ve got an idea of what I need to improve on to prepare for the next round.

So thanks for accepting the one site, and for motivating me to work harder on the other!

  17. LorriM Says:

Congratulations to everyone who made the list!!

    Thanks for everything.

  18. James Says:

So since my blog has been listed on the list of the 111 can I include the 9rules “leaf thing” on my blog or must I wait until I receive my letter?

  19. Not James Says:

James just called your logo a “leaf thing”. LOL…maybe he should be removed from the list for such a remark. :D

  20. James Says:

LOL, well what exactly is it? A leaf/flower/artichoke? :P

I didn’t know what to call it other than “your logo”.

    :)

  21. Montoya Says:

I can’t wait any longer for the e-mail… I’m about to explode.

  22. Kris Says:

Me too, Montoya. Part of me won’t actually believe I was accepted until I get that email.

  23. chutney Says:

Holds breath and jumps up and down.

  24. karl long Says:

haha, I feel the same way, I can’t wait to proudly display the 9rules logo :-)

  26. Metrics 2.0 Says:

How many sites are there in the 9rules network?

  27. Miklb's Mindless Ramblings Says:

[...] 9rules Network has announced 111 new sites for the network. 111!? Before I go any further, let me say, that I’m not some bitter blogger that was part of the 589 bloggers that were rejected. I would never consider this blog something for a network. I don’t have a niche, I don’t post enough, I simply rant out loud, and a few people actually read it. Period. But as someone who reads a lot of sites, I once took a site’s acceptance into 9rules as some sort of validation, that perhaps before reading a post, there was a strong chance that the author was going to know what they were talking about, or that the information would indeed be valid. But to water down the network, IMO, with that many blogs in one fell swoop, I can’t help but believe it was a publicity stunt for a group that had recently fallen off the radar, so to speak. I mean, what better way to get the blogosphere to chatter about you than to “accept” 111 sites into the network. How much traffic directly from those sites is generated alone? Plus those, (I guess I’m buying into the hype by posting this) who comment on the recent events. I must say, I really have a hard time buying any of this, and will now take the 9rules logo on a site with a grain of salt, and that is an injustice to those who have been longer termed members of the network. I’d like to say I haven’t looked at all 111 sites, and I’m sure they are all fine bloggers in their own right. I simply have a hard time understanding how that many are brought in at once. I think I might create a snazzy little logo and start my own network. I’m sure at least 100 of those 589 that were not admitted are as good in their own right as the 111 picked. It could be called the Odd Man Out Network. Wonder how much ad revenue that would generate? Anyone interested in joining? Tagged: rants, geek-life, blogging, 9rules, networks and blogs [...]
