9rules.com v2.0 Coming Soon

Written by Mike Rundle on October 24, 2005

If you’ve wondered what the 9rules crew has been up to the past few weeks, wonder no more. We’ve been hard at work on the second version of our website which will provide multilingual support, an updated user interface (I get sick of looking at my sites after, say, 3 months), and a whole lot more snazziness. Because it’s a pretty large step for us, we’ll be rolling it out in phases over the course of the next few weeks. Also, we’ll be finally getting to use our new dedicated servers our friends at (mt) Media Temple so graciously provided us.

We planned on unleashing v2.0 today, but our fearless CEO Paul Scrivens is currently without power in Tampa, FL due to Wilma’s lashing winds and rain, so we’re going to wait a few days until things clear up and all is back to normal. I talked to Paul yesterday, and he assured me that his generator has been working overtime to power Xbox LIVE so thank goodness his essentials are taken care of.

    Can’t wait to see it!

  2. Freddy Says:

    same here… should be great

  3. Ara Pehlivanian Says:

    Looking forward to it!

  4. Glen C. Says:

I hope it fixes the severe usability problems I have with this site. I think there needs to be a better way of exploring instead of just refreshing the main page. Other than that, I love the design.

oh and feature request: screenshots of sites so I can find a site that I liked, but couldn’t remember the name.

  5. Colin Devroe Says:

Glen C.: Thanks for the suggestions. We’re working hard to fix some of the problems inherent in this current version.

    Anyone else have some suggestions?

  6. Kelley Ritchey Says:

I wrote a post on my blog about the niches that blog networks pursue and included 9rules. I’d like to encourage you to alphabetize and categorize your blogs, even though categorization is sometimes difficult.

It makes it much easier to locate what you want- especially with 70+ blogs already on your network!

  7. Colin Devroe Says:

Kelley: This will absolutely be found in our new version. Along with some added features to help you find what you want much faster. Thanks for the suggestions.

  8. Garrett Dimon Says:

I just hope it’s not ugly like this one, and that the list of sites are even more difficult to browse.

I kid. I kid. Looking forward to seeing how ya’ll handle the multi-lingual thing.

  9. Ben Askins Says:

    9rules 2.0 — bigger and better than Web 2.0.

  10. Scrivs Says:

    So where is it?

  11. Konstantinos Says:

    (^^ The million dollar question)

  12. Jason Johnson Says:

I am a great fan of the current design (and, for that matter, the network as a whole) — but hey, a redesign is understandable if you’re getting tired of it ;) Good luck with the roll-out. I know those can be unforeseeably eventful.

    Weeee!

  13. Beth Says:

I love the old design, but I understand sometimes it’s just time for something new. I hope you leave a link or something somewhere so we can still at least look at a screenshot of the old site!

  14. eston Says:

Are you guys going to open another submission round after the new website release?

I’ll admit that this site is a bit hard to navigate.

  15. Mike Rundle Says:

Eston, we plan on having another round of submissions soon thereafter :)

  16. Geof Harries Says:

Yep, a much cleaner/simpler/quicker way to peruse the entire network would be very helpful. Trying to scan all of those blog titles is painful at the moment.

  17. Henning Hoffmann Says:

So how’s the situation in Tampa? I can’t believe I got my redesign out before you guys did.

  18. Scrivs Says:

Situation is good in Tampa. You can’t believe it? I can :)

  19. Paul Stamatiou Says:

    v2 looks amazing!

  20. HART Says:

Geez .. I read about it, but after looking around with the ‘home’ start page design.. I must say .. Niiice

PS.. did you know the [DEL] button seems to be disabled in these comments? Makes editing difficult.

    Take care //HART
