I see Apple plan on releasing Leopard on the 26th October. Have you pre-ordered or will you wait before updating? Will you join the queues at your local Apple store or do you not see the udgrade as being worth it?
I'm interested in your views as I've only just got used to MacOS (converted from Windows) and am wondering if updating now is really going to be worth it.

As my new machines are coming this week I"m getting an upgrade apparently for £11 each - or so the sales person has agreed with me when I placed my order. Just hope they don't update the machines and then I will be spitting various forms of fur.

@karmatosed: I would have pressed for a free upgrade myself, given how much you spent at Apple recently. But then I don't know how long it will be before they automatically ship their products with 10.5 installed - that date may still be way off.

I definitely plan on getting OSX. I've been looking forward to it for a while. I don't think I'll get it on the day it comes out because I'd rather not deal with lines and such. The iPhone was enough for a year.

I'll wait a few weeks, makes sure there's nothing horribly wrong with it, then go out and procure it for my MacBook.

I'm thinking of queuing at our local store. I haven't done that before, sounds interesting.

I LOVE waiting for Apple stuff in the mail... ok I REALLY hate the waiting so I usually just go to the Apple Store :)
But it's SO like Christmas, opening that gorgeous packaging!

I'm thinking of getting a brand new laptop to replace my current MacBook and upgrading the OS on my iMac. It's one license per system, right?

I'm going to wait out on this one for a few months... not because I don't like the new OS, not because I fear it's initial bugs. But because I want to get one of the upcoming Macbooks with the metal casing.
After seeing the picture on Apple.com featuring Macbooks I felt a bit disappointed. Because that picture probably means that the new Macbooks will only arrive next year.
Oh well... there's still the new iMac :)

I want to go to an Adobe event here in town plus BarCamp Brussels a couple weeks later, and look good. So, I suppose I can't escape checking how far exactly my credit will stretch these days, now can I?
If there is no stretch to be had, then no, I won't be upgrading much at all.

I was loving the concept of Time Machine... but now that they've made it REQUIRE a secondary Hard Drive I LOVE it.
I don't know about you but storing all of my data every day/week/month on my main HD didn't seem like a cool idea.

i'm currently using the developers edition of the new os and i personally cannot wait for the new one to be released. the new features are great and my version only has a few bugs that hopefully will be resolved once available.

Does anyone else think it's a bit steep for older machines as far as requirements go?
I have a fairly new iBook and it's at the BASIC requirement fringe... I wonder if you can disable stuff.

I might be getting another 2 gigs of RAM, first. :) Leopard's not a priority unless I see some sort of windfall come out of nowhere into my bank account. *snort*

I've got a 1st gen Mac Mini at home. So, needless to say, I don't think I want to push her any further as she has been upgraded to Tiger and is running smoothly. Don't care to chance it.
Hopefully I will get a new system with Leopard already installed. That would be awesome.

I pre-ordered it this morning. I love that it's going to arrive on launch day before the Apple Store get it. I'll probably even have it installed before 6PM.

I'm going to wait as there is nothing in it that makes me want to rush out and install it. I'll let you guinea pigs tell me how things go.

As cool as the Spaces feature looks, $125 does not look so cool (I'm a student, remember). I'd rather buy something else, or let someone buy that for me.

I'm freaking out a little over some of the features. I know, that sounds ridiculous and fanboy.
But it's not. How often do you see a company do something that actually makes your life easier and more simple?
Here's some of my favourites- Stacks
- QuickView
- Dictionary (If you don't know the love that is the Mac OS dictionary, check it out)>, connects to wikipedia, has japanese
- Finder updates
- Spaces
- Spotlight updates and optimization (network searching too!)
- Performance upgrades! (graphics drivers, opengl, core)
- Tabbed Terminal
There's much more cool and flashy upgrades included, but these will actually make my workday simpler so I can't help but be a bit excited.

My first gen Mac Mini is still running on Panther! I've also recently gotten a MacBook, so I'm thinking of migrating the latter's license of Tiger onto the Mini, and upgrading the MacBook to Leopard. Yey for upgrades. Or you know.. just take advantage of that student discount and get two copies ;)

I'm definitely going to be pre-ordering it, probably at the rip-off price that's the norm here in the UK. Hopefully, the student discount will ease some of the pain. The only downside I'm seeing at the moment is the new dock and menu bar, they seem to be rather extraneous and "Vista-like".

I saw that some of you are worried about the prerequisites so I thought I'd remind you of something. A little bird told me that Leopard is faster than Tiger, even with the same amount of RAM, because it's a "pure" 64bit OS.
Sure, it will probably go slower than Tiger if you start using a lot of new widgets and features, but that little bird has been running a beta version of Leopard for quite a while now and hasn't run into any problems with it so far because of lack of RAM.

I have a G4 iBook so I'm not sure how well it'll run Leopard. And I'm also not big on crowds. So I think I'll be waiting at least a week or two and checking in here to see what others say about their experience. I'm looking forward to QuickLook though.

I enjoy going to the store with a few friends, buying it, and doing a massive install party - so I won't be preordering it but I'll be picking up a copy probably the day after it is released.

I think I'm going to wait awhile, though it might be hard (so many cool features!). I'm always wary about bugs in the system, and unfortunately, the new iPhone & iPods have done nothing to waylay my concerns, so I will therefore wait for a bunch of eager guinea pigs to test it out and tell me if it's smooth sailing.

I'm going to the premiere at the Apple Store as I have for the last two releases. To my knowledge I've never had any issues adopting early and I doubt this will be any different.

I would, except I still haven't heard any confirmations that CS3 runs on it?
Yeah, I have to agree that I'm not a huge fan of the menu bar...

eliothere,
You don't need confirmations that CS3 runs on it. Everything that runs on tiger will run on it.

That's silly. "Not fully tested" does not equate to broken. I know people using CS3 in the developer build of Leopard with no more problems than in tiger. I'd wager there's at least a few here in notes as well.

Is it just me, or is the new UI a step backwards? I didn't think the menu bar needs to be transparent. The dock being pseudo-3d seems unnecessary too.

CS3 beta that I've been using the past couple weeks has not been kind to me, it's buggy and very sluggish when switching between apps (and I've got an Intel processor). I switched back to CS2 and it's a lot more stable, I don't know what was going on but I'm hesitant to shell out money for CS3 and have it work the way it was working. CS2 Photoshop emulated on my Intel mac is faster than CS3, go figure.

Pre-ordered it from the online Apple Store last night.
I'd say it's worth it, but I can't seem to think of any reasons to list off.

Jeff I agree, transparency doesn't make me really think something is clickable, more like a gimmick. It's something that I'd think that Vista would have, no Leopard.

Definitely updating, but I heard the $69 student pricing only works if you buy it from a University store, so I'm going to wait until our Bookstore gets copies in--which the guy who works the counter has no idea about.
