I always had problems with Firefox running on Mac. Lately, Firefox is taking up from 40%~95% of processing load, burning the CPU and making the fan scream just loading the homepage. I disabled the plugins (the point in using firefox), but same story there.
Anyone else have the problem (this is with Firefox1.5+), any tips?

No troubles. Firefox runs rock solid for me. As does Camino. mmm delicious Camino goodness.

I used firefox on windows, but after switching to mac I don't see the point. Safari is light and fast!

I just downloaded Camino because I've been hearing so much about it. Before I was using BonEcho (a tweaked version of Firefox). I'm using Camino right now, and I love it. Everything just feels faster.

Yeah Firefox drains memory. Especially when you have a bunch of their addons. I try to only use Firefox when working on site development, otherwise I just use Safari or Camino.

Firefox = suck on my MBP. Always crashing and always sucking up memory.
But I develop all most exclusively for it and IE7, so I end up thinking I should stick with it. If Safari wasn't so brushed metal ugly I'd use it.

Stavanger, I had a very similar problem with "memory leaks" and CPU spikes in FF. I fixed it by creating a new Firefox profile. I was stunned at the immediate improvement, try it!

Firefox was completely excellent for me until I began using OS X -- constant beachball balloon waiting and it was too much to handle. I've switched to Camino for browsing, and Coda for development (as it's got the features I use when developing)

Guess I'm not alone here, thanks guys.
Firefox's plugins make it the Jack of all trade, that's why I occasionally use it. I will try the profile thing, thanks bobbyh.
By the way, its not so much memory, I have enough RAM, but CPU. Firefox regularly takes up 90% of my CPU (2ghz core 2 dual) processes and Photoshop CS3 only 15% at most. With Firefox taking up so much CPU, everything else is slow and I just can't stand the heat and the fan.

Firefox has really gotten bad for me as well. At first I thought it was some of the extensions I had installed, but now that I'm starting to hear more and more about problems (Dvorak as well, it seems) I'm starting to think it's a version problem.. I have 4 gigs of ram, for crying out loud, this shouldn't be happening.
It's gotten so sluggish that I only use it for web development, doing most of my recreational surfing using Safari.

Stavanger: I think I had the same problem. I would have firefox open, and if I tried to edit a raw photo in photoshop my macbook (1gb ram) would sound like it was about to blow up. But while using Camino, I can open photoshop and dreamweaver without so much as a peep.
